'Go The F to Sleep' May Lure Famous Fans to Readings
The Brooklyn-based publisher of the quirky title say they are “in talks” with talent to read at summer events tied to the tome now that Samuel Jackson’s reading of the book has gone viral.
This month, America seems to have found its favorite new book title: Go the F--K to Sleep.
The suddenly and unexpectedly hot title in publishing circles is not only burning up the New York Times best seller list, but it has also been popular on You Tube, where Samuel Jackson’s reading of the book has racked up hundreds of thousands of streams in just a matter of days.
Audible was the company that landed Jackson as its narrator for the audiobook version of Go the F--K to Sleep.
In its first 48 hours out, the audiobook version racked up 160,000 downloads. Fox 2000 snagged the film rights to the title in May.
Director Warner Herzog is a fan and read at a launch event earlier this week in Manhattan, as did Judah Friedlander.
The book is also a favorite on Twitter, where names such as The Roots’ Questlove are confessing their love for the quirky offering from Brooklyn-based publisher Akashic Books. Now, a rep from Akashic says more readings by names of note drawn to Go the F--K to Sleep are in the works.
"We can’t say just yet who will read but let’s just say there is a lot of interest,” said Ibrahim Ahmad, a senior editor at the small publishing house.
The next reading event is set for July 7th in Brooklyn, followed by two events in Boston July 14th and 15th. Ahmad said Akashic has been busy all week fielding calls from “interested parties.” What that means is hard to say right now, but the level of interest in the book among actors, well-known comedians and musicians is high.
