When it comes to awards show prep, teamwork makes the dream work.

Everything's coming up gold for Viola Davis. Not only did the star snag a glittering statuette for her performance in Fences at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, but she had a shiny, metallic manicure to match.

"Viola’s Michael Kors gown is a bright, sunshine yellow, so instead of matching her nails to the gown this time, we decided to match her rust satin platform peep toe shoes, and do a shimmery copper shade, which looks brilliant on her beautiful skin,” explained celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec.

Kandalec prepped Davis' nails with nourishing Essie apricot cuticle oil to push back cuticles, and applied Essie ridge filling base coat to even out the nail surface. Kandalec then applied two coats of Essie leggy legend, followed by a finishing Essie good to go topcoat.

The secret to the looks, says Kandalec, lies in buffing the surface of the nail lightly before applying any metallic or shimmering shades. “It will ensure that the polish looks perfectly smooth after it dries.”

But it wasn’t just Davis that got a red carpet-worthy mani from Kandalec on Sunday. "After I was doing Viola's nails, her [five-year-old] daughter, Genesis, asked me to polish her nails as well. As I was doing them, I happened to say ‘teamwork,' to which she immediately replied, 'makes the dream work!' Certainly fitting for today."
