Goldwyn and Red Envelope prefer 'Paris'
EmptyJulie Delpy's romantic comedy "2 Days in Paris" has been acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films and Netflix's Red Envelope Entertainment at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The companies picked up all U.S. rights to "Paris," splitting costs in what Goldwyn vp acquisitions Peter Goldwyn calls a "50-50 partnership."
Goldwyn will handle a theatrical rollout in the summer, with Red Envelope helping with promotion and Netflix distribution after a standard theatrical window. Goldwyn also will release "Paris" on DVD in a deal being finalized with a home video distributor.
Delpy, who served as writer, editor, composer, star and first-time feature director, plays a U.S.-based photographer who brings her neurotic boyfriend (Adam Goldberg) home to Paris to meet her friends and family. His inability to speak French, along with unexpected encounters with her ex-boyfriends and her unfriendly parents, put their two-year relationship to the test.
"Paris" had its world premiere last week in the Berlin festival's Panorama section.
"Julie's deft hand lends ferociously funny humor to the film as she explores the unwitting hilarity that ensues as people try to communicate with one another," Peter Goldwyn said. "This film was a crowd-pleaser in Berlin and will definitely spark interest in the U.S."
The film was produced by Polaris Film Production and Finance founder Christophe Mazodier and Delpy through her Tempete sous un crane Prods. Germany's 3L Filmproduktion co-produced.
The deal was negotiated by Goldwyn and Red Envelope's Bahman Naraghi and Liesl Copland, with Rezo Films head of international sales Sebastien Chesneau representing the filmmakers.
