Political Consultants Gonring, Spahn & Associates Expands Reach by Acquiring L.A.-Based Messaging Firm

The firm acquired Message, a full-service strategic communications which immediately bolsters Gonring, Spahn's already formidable messaging acumen.

Hollywood-based political consultancy firm Gonring, Spahn & Associates, which counts some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry as clients, has acquired the strategic communications firm Message. As part of the acquisition, the firm has given Message’s founder Steve Caplan the new title of chief strategy officer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The eight-employee Message — also based in Hollywood — is a full-service strategic communications agency with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to civic institutions to non-profit organizations. The award-winning agency immediately bolsters Gonring, Spahn’s messaging acumen and adds to its core business of fundraising, strategic communications, advocacy and government affairs. 

"This acquisition gives us access to an even greater range of capabilities, including creative development, digital, and media buying, while adding senior-level expertise in an increasingly complex political, philanthropic, and policy environment," said CEO Jennifer Gonring. 

Gonring, Spahn & Associates’ clients include Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg, along with a portfolio of non-profits, charitable organizations and corporations. The notoriously discreet firm most recently helped organize last week’s fundraiser for Joe Biden held at the Beverly Hills house of Michael Smith and James Costos. But its work extends far beyond politics and fundraising. In July 2018, it opened a Washington, D.C., office that is being headed up by Kevin Ryan.
