Goodrich to install 2 new Imax screens

TORONTO -- Imax Corp. on Tuesday said U.S. exhibitor Goodrich Quality Theaters has agreed to install two new supersized screens in its circuit after successful launches of Imax theaters in Chicago and Indiana.

Toronto-based Imax said Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Goodrich will install two large format screens in multiplexes to be built and opened in 2008 and 2009.

The first Imax screen will go into a 16-screen multiplex set to open in Indianapolis next March. Then, in late 2009, Goodrich will install a second screen that employs a digital projection system in a multiplex set to be built in an unspecified location in Michigan.

Imax and Goodrich last March unveiled their first pact that saw large format screens go into a new multiplex in Portage, Indiana and another in an existing multiplex in Batavia, Illinois.

"Our first two Imax theaters became excellent grossing multiplex screens in the far western and far eastern Chicago suburbs for some of the biggest movies of the year," Bob Goodrich of Goodrich Quality Theaters said in a statement, explaining the decision to expand his chain of Imax screens.

Goodrich Quality Theaters currently operates 269 screens in 31 theaters. Imax currently has 290 giant screen theaters in 40 countries internationally.
