Google launches beta music search in China

Offers free, licensed music to users

SHANGHAI -- Google has launched a music-searching service in China, allowing Internet users to download licensed music for free, the company said Tuesday.

When searching songs by singer, song or album title on, a link to Google partner, will appear as the top search result, allowing users to listen to or download songs.

The free service will be supported by advertising revenue. Google, and the music company rights holders will share the revenue, but Google did not specify the split.
