Gorky Studios safe as film complex planned

Russian culture minister announces complex

MOSCOW -- Alexander Avdeyev, Russia's newly appointed culture minister, confirmed Wednesday the government's plans to create a "super-sized" film complex out of Moscow's Mosfilm and Gorky studios and St. Petersburg's Lenfilm, thereby canceling earlier plans to put Gorky on the block.

Avdeyev stressed that the process will require careful handling. "The restructuring should not have a negative impact on the studios' personnel," he said. He also expressed concerns that bureaucratic hurdles may hinder the restructuring.
