Earlier this fall, Jon Lovett ditched his three-year gig as President Obama's speechwriter to try to make it in television. He's marrying the two worlds with the red-hot "1600 Penn," a White House comedy Lovett sold to NBC with "The Book of Mormon" star Josh Gad and "Modern Family" director Jason Winer.

"Don't think of it as a government shutdown. Think of it as a 'Newsroom' finale," tweets former Obama speechwriter and "1600 Penn" co-creator Jon Lovett.

The government shutdown was a big topic on Twitter on Monday night.

Just ahead of the shutdown -- which occurred at midnight ET -- five of the 10 top trending terms were political: #governmentshutdown, #GOPshutdown, #shutdown, Dems and Obamacare.
