Granada sells 300 hrs to Taiwan

Chunghwa buys HD dramas, factual, H'wood films for IPTV

HONG KONG -- Granada International has sold 300 hours of high-definition programming to Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom, which will air it on its 450,000-subscriber, multimedia on-demand IPTV-VOD service.

The deal includes such new titles as "My Boy Jack," starring Daniel Radcliffe, and "Ballet Shoes," starring Emma Watson; factual series "Planet Science"; and Hollywood features including "The Fabulous Baker Boys" and "Bugsy Malone."

The deal is part of Granada parent ITV's ongoing initiative to grow digital revenue from its programming. Granada International sells programs to more than 200 countries.

The top telecom service provider in Taiwan, Chunghwa launched its multimedia on-demand service in March 2004. It now has 60 channels and more than 2,000 on-demand programs.
