The U.K.-based finance and sales company aims to release 8 to 12 titles a year, and will kick off with 'Submission,' starring Stanley Tucci and Kyra Sedgwick.

Growing U.K.-based finance and sales banner Great Point Media is launching a U.S. distribution arm, with the aim of launching eight to 12 titles per year across the country.

First up on the release schedule is Submission, the adaptation by Richard Levine (Nip/Tuck) of Francine Prose’s acclaimed novel Blue Angel, starring Stanley Tucci and Kyra Sedgwick. It will open in New York on March 2 and expand March 9.

Blue Angel is just one film on a full and already prepped 2018 slate, which  includes Judy Greer’s all-star directorial debut, A Happening of Monumental Proportions starring Allison Janney, Jennifer Garner, Katie Holmes and Common; Measure of a Man, from Jim Loach (Oranges and Sunshine) and starring Blake Cooper (The Maze Runner), Donald Sutherland, Luke Wilson and Greer; and acclaimed Sundance drama Where Is Kyra? from Andrew Dosunmu and starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kiefer Sutherland.

“At a time of great change in the market, we’re proud to be giving filmgoers the chance to experience exceptional independent films in some of the best theaters around the U.S.,” said Great Point co-founder Robert Halmi.

“We’re very excited to launch this division and to deliver compelling stories from great filmmakers with casts audiences know and love,” co-founder Jim Reeve added.

Set up by Halmi and Reeve in 2012, Great Point Media has fully financed an impressive number of film and TV projects, including last year’s multi-award-winning U.K. indie hit Lady Macbeth, which scooped four honors at the British Independent Film Awards, and Sally Potter’s The Party, which bowed in the Berlinale last year.

For its debut slate, it has partnered with distribution veterans Mark Urman (Paladin), Jeff Linsky (Glass Half Full) and Michael Silberman. Great Point commercial manager Matt Stevens will oversee the releases from the company’s London office.
