Griffin Prods. sets fitness reality series

Nutrition expert Harley Pasternak to star in new show

Merv Griffin Prods. is developing a weight-loss reality competition series starring fitness and nutrition expert to the stars Harley Pasternak.

The company's president of television Roy Bank said he had been looking to get into the weight-loss/body-transformation space and quickly identified Pasternak as the perfect person to tackle it with.

"What he brought to the table is a perfect combination: He is a talent but also an expert," Bank said of the trainer who has appeared on the top TV talk shows and has been featured in numerous magazines.

The show, which will be taken to the broadcast networks shortly, echoes "The Biggest Loser" and "The Amazing Race" as it combines the adventures of international travel with a weight-loss competition.

It is based on Pasternak's upcoming book "World Diet," which profiles the 10 healthiest countries in the world and the relationship between their ranking and the local lifestyle and diet. The list includes Italy, Sweden, Japan and Singapore. The U.S. ranks No. 1 in number of gyms per capita, but it is among the world's 10 most overweight counties.

The series will feature 16 overweight Americans who will travel with Pasternak to the 10 countries featured in his book, where they will try to adapt to the local diet, lifestyle and exercise regiments in pursuit of losing weight to stay in the competition.
