Gritten appointed Halliwell Guide editor

LONDON -- Veteran journalist and reviewer David Gritten has been appointed the new editor of "Halliwell's Film, DVD and Video Guide," widely recognized as the U.K.'s No. 1 film guide.

Gritten will co-edit this year's edition, due for publication in October, with John Walker, who has edited the guide since 1991.

When Walker steps down from his role at the end of 2007, Gritten will become the sole editor.

A familiar face on the film festival circuit, Gritten's interview subjects have included Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Tom Hanks.

He currently writes regularly for the Daily Telegraph and is London correspondent for the Los Angeles Times.

Gritten also is chairman of the London Film Critics' Circle.
