Gronenthal sr. vp at Rainbow

Tasked with building Rainbow Media Holdings' international broadcast operations into a dynamic new area for the U.S. media group among other missions, Harold Gronenthal has been named senior vp program acquisitions and international development.

Gronenthal will be responsible for the international management of Rainbow's AMC, IFC, WE: Women's Entertainment and Fuse cable networks as well as the on-demand networks Lifeskool and Sportskool.

The move represents an important step up in Rainbow's international expansion initiative that has been in place since October 2005.

"Rainbow's growing international presence is proving to be a powerful force in the global marketplace," said Jodsua Spain, president and CEO of Rainbow Media Holdings Llc. "Harold's expertise solidifies the leadership of our international programming. He has a strong understanding of our core brands and a clear sense of the growth strategy for our networks as the television landscape continues to evolve."

More than 1,000 hours of Rainbow-produced programming has been sold to markets as diverse as China, the U.K., Italy, Australia and Scandinavia.

The aim now is to expand Rainbow's branded broadcast operations to the international territories. Gronenthal will now take on international management of programming, sales and brand extensions across multiple platforms in conjunction with sales partners iD Distribution, NBDtv and Electric Sky. Rainbow Media Holdings Llc. is a subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corp. ID Distribution is a dynamic company launched in 2004 with the investment backing of Ingenious Media.

Gronenthal has held numerous executive-level programming roles at Bravo International, Bravo Networks and IFC Cos., where he was instrumental in the development of several Rainbow Media on-demand services and new business, including the launch of channels for Voom HD Networks.
