‘The Guard’ Producer Ed Guiney Wins European Co-Production Award
The Irish producer, whose credits also include Sundance hit ‘Frank’ and upcoming feature ‘The Lobster,’ will receive the Prix Eurimage award at this year’s European Film Awards
Ed Guiney, the Irish producer of a series of cross-over indie hits, including John Michael McDonagh’s The Guard with Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle, and Lenny Abrahamson’s Frank starring Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Mullan’s Venice Film Festival winner The Magdalene Sisters, will be honored this year with the Prix Eurimage, the European co-production prize handed out as part of the European Film Awards.
Upcoming features which Guiney is producing via his Dublin-based shingle Element Pictures, include best-seller adaptation Room from director Abrahamson starring Brie Larson, Joan Allen and William H. Macy and The Lobster, the English-language debut of Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth), which stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Lea Seydoux and Ben Whishaw.
The Prix Eurimage honors European filmmakers who go beyond their national boundaries to produce truly European features. Guiney will receive the award at the gala ceremony of the 2014 European Film Awards in Riga, Latvia on Dec. 14.
