Gupta set to exit Disney India

NEW DELHI -- Mumbai-based Walt Disney Company India Private Ltd. said Tuesday that its managing director, Rajat Gupta, will leave the company as soon as a replacement is found. Gupta has been with WDCI for almost three years.

"Rajat came in at the very start and has laid a strong foundation for growth for the Walt Disney Co. in India," Walt Disney International president Andy Bird said in a statement. "We would like to thank Rajat for his role in establishing the business to where it is today, and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Added Gupta: "It has been very rewarding to play a role in launching the Walt Disney Co. in India. We built the business ground up and today have a significant presence in television, merchandise and licensing, and all other businesses have been established. I want to thank my management team for their dedication and support in building the business to where it is today."

Gupta will be working with Andy Bird to oversee management of WDCI until a new appointment is made. Gupta's plans after leaving Disney are not yet known.
