Guy Pearce Joins 'Equals' Opposite Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult

The movie is written by Nathan Parker and directed by Drake Doremus and is being touted internationally by Mister Smith Entertainment.

Guy Pearce (The Hurt Locker) has joined the cast for futuristic feature Equals opposite Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult.

The film is billed as a futuristic love story set in a society where emotions have been eradicated. It is about the joy of finding connection, and the fear of having it taken away.

Producers Scott Free Productions and Route One Films announced Pearce's hire.

Filming is set to commence in Japan and Singapore this August.

U.K.-based sales and finance banner Mister Smith Entertainment is handling international sales on the film and launched the project to buyers during the 2014 Cannes Film Market.

It has so far sold in over 35 territories.

Drake Doremus, previously a Sundance grand jury award winner, first worked with Pearce on his 2013 feature Breathe In.

Equals is written by Nathan Parker (Moon) and is being produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Schaefer, Ann Ruark, and Jay Stern and Chip Diggins of Route One, who are also financing the movie, and executive produced by Mike Pruss, Lee Jae WooChoi Pyung Ho and Russell Levine.

Pearce recently attended the Cannes Film Festival to support David Michod’s The Rover, in which he starred alongside Robert Pattinson.

Pearce is represented by Chris Andrews at CAA, Sally Long-Innes at Independent Talent Group and Ann Churchill-Brown at Shanahan Management.

UTA Independent Film Group arranged financing for the project and will sell the North American rights to the film.
