Dimension Films says the sequel won't be ready in time for its planned Oct. 26 release date.


Paramount's Paranormal Activity 4 will now have Halloween largely to itself.

Dimension Films confirmed on Thursday that it has removed Halloween 3D from the release calendar. The Weinstein Co.'s genre division said the movie won't be ready in time for a scheduled Oct. 26, 2012 bow.

Paranormal 4, which opens Oct. 19, is now the one horror film positioned to make a bid for fans of scary movies.

In  2007, Dimension rebooted the long-running Halloween franchise, which consisted of eight previous films .  That version, simply titled Halloween and released stateside through MGM, grossed $80.3 million worldwide. In  2009, the company followed up with Halloween II, which grossed $39.4 million worldwide.

For the latest incarnation of the series, Dimension has been working with writer/director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer, who collaborated on 2009's My Bloody Valentine and 2011's Drive Angry.

Dimension has not set a new date for Halloween 3D.
