The Roots Board 'Hamilton' as Cast Recording's Executive Producers

'Hamilton'

Previews: July 13
Opening: Aug. 6
Lin-Manuel Miranda's buzzy off-Broadway import follows the political and personal fortunes of Alexander Hamilton and his dealings with figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison as they forge an independent nation. Directed by Thomas Kail, it uses rap, hip-hop, R&B and pop balladry to translate late-18th-century American history into a vigorously contemporary, multi-cultural urban vernacular and also stars Renee Elise Goldsberry and Jonathan Groff. After winning virtually every award for which it was eligible in its Public Theater debut, the show at the Richard Rodgers Theatre is already a Tonys frontrunner.

"Ten minutes into 'Hamilton', though, I was just so stunned. It was such a sucker punch," says Questlove. 'Hamilton' "can be your introduction to hip-hop — on Broadway. And it’s a valid one. It’s a credible one."

Hamilton, the hip-hop musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton that has received rave reviews, has just hit Broadway (currently in previews, it officially opens on Aug. 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre) and soon, it will be hitting a store near you.

Billboard has the exclusive announcement that Atlantic Records will release Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording) this fall and will be executive produced by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter of The Roots. Pre-order will be available on Aug. 7 via all digital retailers.

“Ten minutes into Hamilton, though, I was just so stunned. It was such a sucker punch,” says Thompson. Hamilton “can be your introduction to hip-hop — on Broadway. And it’s a valid one. It’s a credible one.”

Hamilton is the brainchild of Tony- and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the show's book, music and lyrics while also taking on the starring role.
