HBO on the move with SK Telecom for VOD in Korea

HBO said Tuesday that it has joined forces with SK Telecom for a mobile VOD venture in South Korea.

The service offers episodes of hit series including "Six Feet Under" and "Sex and the City." The launch is kicking off with a free one-month trial period that began Dec. 22, featuring four free episodes of both series.

"With one of the most advanced mobile networks on Earth, SK Telecom is a leader in providing on-demand mobile entertainment to its subscribers," HBO International senior vp Stanley Fertig said. "This deal is also an example of the many opportunities HBO is finding around the world as digital technology advances in the international marketplace."

The SK Telecom deal represents the continuing expansion of HBO's mobile presence. Last year, the company struck a similar deal in Europe with Vodafone. In addition, HBO makes episodes from the first year of a select group of series, including "Entourage," available exclusively to Cingular Wireless users in the U.S. That deal also includes original "Entourage" mobisodes featuring one of the characters from the series, Johnny Drama, played by Kevin Dillon.
