HBO Nordic, Turner Team on Kids Streaming Service Toonix

Scooby-Doo is among the content Turner's new kids service Toonix offers

The new brand targets 3- to 12-year-olds and their families.

Scandinavian premium TV streaming service HBO Nordic and Turner, both part of Time Warner, are joining forces to launch a new kids streaming service called Toonix.

Created by Turner EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), the over-the-top service is targeted at 3- to 12-year-olds and their families and offers a mix of "high-quality kids' series and movies including popular content from Turner's Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. animation" and much more, the companies said in a statement Tuesday.

HBO Nordic, which offers subscribers in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark content that includes such series as Game of Thrones, Westworld and Big Little Lies, is the first partner of Turner to be launching the brand.

Toonix, which launched on HBO Nordic Tuesday, will initially offer more than 2,000 episodes of top shows and movies dubbed into local subscriber languages. All shows are advertising-free, and Toonix will be available to HBO Nordic subscribers for no additional fee.

New content will be added each week, and key shows include "all-time favorites" The Amazing World of Gumball, Lego Ninjago, Looney Toones, Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry and others. Preschool classics including Shaun the Sheep, Alfie Atkins, My Little Pony and local favorites such as Pippi Longstocking, Bamse, Rasmus Klump and The Moomins will also be available.

The move is in line with Turner's strategy to increase its direct-to-consumer offerings. In August, Turner, the cable networks unit of Time Warner, announced a deal with UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, for a three-year multi-platform rights agreement for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League tournaments, beginning with the 2017-18 season.
