TIFF: Bleecker Street Acquiring Drone Drama 'Eye in the Sky'
Gavin Hood's film, starring Helen Mirren, is set in the world of remotely piloted aircraft warfare.
Bleecker Street is nearing a deal for Eye in the Sky, Gavin Hood's film looking at drone warfare.
Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman and Barkhad Abdi star in the film, which premiered on Sept. 11 at TIFF.
Hood directed based on a screenplay by Guy Hibbert. The film centers a terrorist-targeting drone mission that becomes a flashpoint when a civilian girl enters the kill zone.
Ged Doherty, Colin Firth and David Lancaster produced the Entertainment One and Raindog film.
WME repped domestic rights. The deal was negotiated between Kent Sanderson of Bleecker Street with Avy Eschenasy on behalf of Bleecker Street and WME Global and Marchand for eOne.
TIFF has been slow on the deals side so far, with buyers expressing concern over the lack of quality finished films for sale in the festival, but things are likely to pick up today and over the next few days.
