Helmer gets 'Code' break for Uni sci-fi
EmptyUniversal has tapped Aussie director Shane Abbess to helm the sci-fi thriller "Source Code" that's being produced by Mark Gordon.
"Code," written by Ben Ripley, centers on a time continuum, though the actual plot details are being kept under wraps.
Topher Grace at one point was attached to star in the project.
Richard Inglee also is producing.
Universal president of production Donna Langley, senior vp production Scott Bernstein and creative executive David Ortiz will oversee the project for the studio.
Abbess' lone feature directing credit is "Gabriel," an independent movie that he also wrote and produced that was picked up for worldwide distribution by Screen Gems International.
Abbess is repped by Endeavor and Underground Management.
