Helmers get pilots off ground

"24" helmer/executive producer Jon Cassar has been tapped to direct the CBS drama pilot "Washington Field," and Michael Fresco is set to helm ABC's untitled Dave Hemingson dramedy pilot.

Meanwhile, Adam Bernstein will direct NBC's drama pilot "Mercy," which Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts have joined as exec producers.

In pilot-pickup news, NBC and ABC have ordered untitled multicamera family comedies, and CBS has greenlighted the comedies "Good Girls" and "Cop House."

In castings, Lennie James has joined CBS' U.S. Attorney drama, and Lauren German has landed in the ABC drama "Happy Town."

Fresco will helm a retooled version of the Hemingson project, first picked up to pilot last season. Four actors from the original pilot — star Matt Long, Ben Lawson, Norbert Leo Butz and Tina Majorino — are staying on.

The UMS-produced "Mercy" is a comedic drama about three nurses. ICM-repped Berg and Harberts will serve as co-showrunners alongside creator/exec producer Liz Heldens. Bernstein directed the pilot for NBC's "30 Rock."

"Jericho" alum James returns to CBS and CBS Par with the untitled legal drama about prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan. He will play a former ADA who works as a paralegal.

In the mystery-in-a-small-town "Happy Town," German plays a suspicious transplant to the area.

NBC's untitled Justin Adler comedy, from Sony and Tantamount, revolves around adult siblings. Adler penned the script and is exec producing with Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum.

ABC's Jeff Strauss comedy, from ABC Studios, revolves around three couples. Strauss penned and is exec producing with Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis.

The multicamera "Good Girls," from CBS Par and Katalyst, was written by Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer, who exec produce with Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg and Karey Burke. It revolves around two female friends trying to reinvent themselves.

The single-camera "Cop House," from 20th TV, is set at a halfway house for cops. Adam Resnick penned the script and is exec producing with Marty Adelstein and Michael Thorn. (partialdiff)
