'Heroes,' 'Deal' win Mon. for NBC


NEW YORK -- NBC won Monday night's broadcast primetime, with "Deal or No Deal" and "Heroes" shining and "Friday Night Lights" holding up as a substitution for the ratings-troubled "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

NBC averaged 13.3 million viewers and a 4.9 rating/13 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. CBS came in second in both measures with an all-repeat lineup, with 11.4 million viewers and a 3.6/9.

With "CSI: Miami" in repeat, NBC's "Deal or No Deal" (16.8 million, 4.8/13) was the night's top show in viewers while NBC's "Heroes" (14.7 million, 6.4/15) took the victory in the demo. "Deal" was up compared to last week (15.8 million, 4.5/12); so was "Heroes" (14.4 million, 6.3/15).

With "Studio 60" benched, "Friday Night Lights" (8.3 million, 3.5/9) got the call at 10 p.m. While it was beaten at 10 p.m. by "CSI: Miami" (14.2 million, 4.3/11) it finished ahead of ABC's "What About Brian" (6.4 million, 2.9/8). "Friday Night Lights" not only outperformed last week's "Studio 60" (7.7 million, 3.2/8) but also was ahead of the 6.3 million (and 2.6/7) that it did in its regular time period of 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Over on ABC, "Wife Swap" was a repeat and "The Bachelor: Rome" (8.2 million, 3.2/8) was flat week-to-week. "What About Brian" was ahead of last week's 6 million, 2.7/7 in the demo.

With postseason baseball over, Fox returned to its programming with new episodes of "Prison Break" (9 million, 3.6/9) and "Justice" (6.5 million, 2.1/5). "Prison Break" was up 6% in viewers and up 9% in adults 18-49, and won the hour in adults 18-34. "Justice" was up 5% in viewers week-to-week yet flat in adults 18-49.
