"It was not properly thought through."
Hilary Duff and new boyfriend Jason Walsh arrived at a Halloween party in Los Angeles Friday night (Oct. 28) in coordinated costumes. The singer dressed as a pilgrim, while Walsh wore a Native American costume.
The couple — who seemingly confirmed their relationship on Instagram in early October, when Duff shared a photo of the pair kissing with the caption “Date night with J” — released separate statements on Sunday in response to comments on social media accusing them of cultural appropriation.
“I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume. It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my [heart] sorry,” Duff tweeted.
"I meant no disrespect,” Walsh said on Instagram, as pointed out by E! News. “I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America. In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended."
