History HD to launch in Asia in September

Channel is A&E's first linear HD effort in the region

SINGAPORE -- A&E Television Networks will launch its first History HD linear channel in the region in September, company executives said Tuesday.

History HD launches on StarHub Digital Cable Singapore on Monday and on Hong Kong's Now TV IPTV platform later in September.

The new channel is part of the joint venture for Southeast Asia and Hong Kong with Malaysian pay TV platform operator Astro.

This is AETN International's second HD service in Asia after the History branded HD VOD platform on Korea Telecom's Mega TV announced in April.

History HD's linear schedule will be different from the regular History television channel in Asia and will be 100% in HD, AETN All Asia Networks joint venture general manager, Louis Boswell, said.

The channel will carry Chinese subtitles.

The launch schedule include "Cities of the Underworld," "The Universe," "Ax Men," "Dogfights," "Ancient Discoveries" and "Ice Road Truckers."
