Iconic comic book artist, writer and editor Joe Simon died Dec. 14 in New York City after a brief illness. The co-creator of Captain America and other famous comic figures was 98.

Bert Schneider, the producer behind the counterculture classics Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces and The Last Picture Show, died Dec. 12 of natural causes in Los Angeles. He was 78.
