Hollywood Power Player Shares 10 Tips for Wearing a Suit
Agent-turned-style consultant Andrew Weitz reveals how little touches can have big power
This story first appeared in the Oct. 10 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
For smart tips on how men can make their suits stand out, THR turned to agent-turned-style-consultant Andrew Weitz of The Weitz Effect. Here are his top ideas -- though he warns that the most brilliant accessories and fashion advice won't save a man's style if his suit isn't properly tailored.
1 Wear a pocket square, but fluffed out, not a straight fold like everyone else.
2 Try a cool lapel pin. I like the floral pins from Lanvin and Charvet.
3 Wear a double-breasted suit. That's all you need to set yourself apart.
4 Add a classic pocket watch to the waistcoat of a three-piece suit. A total baller move.
5 Funky-colored or patterned socks to stand out in a subtle way, since they mainly can be seen when sitting down or crossing your legs. Paul Smith makes the best.
6 Use a tie bar, but perhaps on a slant, not straight. Something different and cool.
7 Wrap a silk scarf around your neck, tucked into the sides of the suit jacket. Chic Italian style.
8 Put glasses in your blazer's breast pocket (only one temple of the frame should fold over the fabric). I love eyewear from Dita, David Kind, Thom Browne and Tom Ford.
9 Wear a cool yet subtle designer sneaker. Totally trending right now. I'm a fan of Lanvin, Vince and Common Projects.
10 Cuff links are a nice touch to differentiate your look. I like Cartier, Paul Smith and Alice Made This.
