The trade show company, headed by Robert and Andrew Sunshine, is also adding Theo Kingma to its management team.

Eldridge Industries, the private investment firm which operates a portfolio of diversified businesses including The Hollywood Reporter, has acquired a controlling interest in Film Expo Group, which produces the film-industry trade shows CineEurope in Barcelona, CineAsia in Hong Kong and ShowEast in Miami and publishes Film Journal International.

Film Expo Group, which will now operate independently, had previously been part of Mediabistro Holdings, which is also controlled by Eldridge Industries.

Film Expo Group, based in New York, will continue to be led by its existing management team, with former president Robert Sunshine taking the reins as chairman and Andrew Sunshine, who had been serving as vp, taking on the role of president. “We are extremely excited to join the Eldridge family,” the two executives said in a statement. “This new configuration positions Film Expo Group for continued success, opening the door to longer-term investment that will allow us to expand our core properties.”

Additionally, Theo Kingma, a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is joining the Film Expo Group management team. Based on the West Coast, he will work out of Eldridge Industry’s Beverly Hills office.

“Film Expo Group is a substantial business on its own, and presents a strategic opportunity for Eldridge,” Todd Boehly, chairman and CEO of Eldridge Industries, said. “We hope to work collaboratively to grow with Eldridge’s other subsidiaries.”

Eldridge Industries is also the parent company of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group and several other media businesses.
