Empty'Batman' bows Blu
Now that HD DVD is history, Warner Home Video is prepping "Batman Begins" for Blu-ray Disc release July 8, 10 days before the theatrical opening of its sequel, "The Dark Knight." "Batman Begins" was one of Warner's first big HD DVD releases — it came out in October 2006 — and is the exiting high-def disc format's No. 1 catalog seller.
Boone for Graham
Pat Boone's Lamb & Lion Home Video label is preparing a tribute DVD and CD honoring Billy Graham. "Thank You Billy Graham" features musical performances by more than two dozen artists, from Bono to George Strait. The disc and companion album will be released May 20, mostly to Christian retailers. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration for a humble giant who has devoted his life to serving God and humanity," said David Pack, the tribute's producer and co-writer.
In case anyone hasn't had their fill of "The Dukes of Hazzard," what with all seven seasons of the campy 1980s TV comedy already available on DVD, Warner Home Video on June 10 will release "The Dukes of Hazzard: TV Double Feature." The two-disc set includes a pair of films that aired long after the show went off the air in 1985: "Reunion!" (1997) and "Hazzard in Hollywood" (2000).
The latest installment in Eagle Rock Entertainment's "Classic Albums" DVD series will be John Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band," coming April 29. The 90-minute DVD takes a look at the making of Lennon's first solo album through archival footage and new interviews with Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr and Lennon confidante Klaus Voorman.
