In the bedroom

Two classic erotic properties are coming to DVD. On Oct. 9, Lionsgate will release "Emmanuelle: Special Edition," the 1974 film based on the book by Emmanuelle Arsan. The first openly erotic film intended for a mainstream audience, "Emmanuelle" created a stir when originally released and comes to DVD with specially created featurettes about the making of the film as well as its impact on American audiences. Also in the pipeline: French director Pascale Ferran's "Lady Chatterley," based on D.H. Lawrence's novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" and called by one critic "the most frankly sensual movie in memory." "Chatterley" arrives Dec. 4 on DVD from Kino International.

'Caligula' reigns

Move over, "Gladiator." On Oct. 2, Image Entertainment will release a lavish three-disc edition of "Caligula," the 1979 film that details the graphic and shocking story of Gaius Germanicus Caligula, the most infamous Caesar of all. The "Imperial Edition" of the epic film, which stars Malcolm McDowell, Peter O'Toole, Helen Mirren and John Gielgud, includes a newly filmed interview with director Tinto Brass, two making-of documentaries, interviews with cast members and commentary tracks with McDowell and Mirren.

Hi-def 'Rush'

New Line isn't wasting any time now that it's in the high-definition disc market. Less than two weeks after officially announcing its entry with Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD editions of "Hairspray," the mini-major said it also will release "Rush Hour 3" on both next-generation formats. The Blu-ray Disc will be out the day after Christmas, the same day as the DVD, while the HD DVD will be available in early 2008.
