The festival will also showcase a "Back to the Screen" program, which features Ridley Scott's Alien (Director's Cut) to commemorate the death of the film's visual artist and creator of the alien creature, H. R. Giger, who passed away in May. "Back to the Screen" will also include groundbreaking sci-fi animated feature, Akira, directed by Otomo Katsuhiro, which is highly regarded as a masterpiece of Japanese animation.

The "Restored Classics" section of the Summer International Film Festival will feature Pulp Fiction at the time of the film's 20th anniversary, and director King Hu's restored Dragon Inn, an Asian box office success when it was released in 1967. Good copies of the film have been unavailable until this special restoration.

The Summer International Film Festival will also showcase a free community screening of a restored version of All's Well, Ends Well for the public. The film was one of the most popular Chinese New Year comedies and has spawned a successful franchise.
