Hourlong fireworks show explosive for NBC
EmptyNEW YORK -- Ratings from New York's "Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular" gave NBC cause to celebrate, giving the peacock a win in both key measures in Wednesday's primetime.
The one-hour fireworks show drew 8 million viewers and a 2.2 rating/9 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. It was the highest demo rating in five years and up 5% compared with last year's 2.1/8 if the ratings hold when final data is released Friday.
It did slightly better than CBS' "Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular" (7 million, 1.6/6) an hour later. Most everything else was repeats, with the exception of "Dateline" (6.7 million, 2.0/7) at 10 p.m. on NBC.
Wednesday averages: NBC (6.5 million, 1.8/7); CBS (6 million, 1.4/5); ABC (3.6 million, 1.1/4); Fox (3.1 million, 1.2/5); and the CW (1 million, 0.4/2).
