'House' takes Monday night in Canada

'Dancing With the Stars' finished close behind

TORONTO – Canada's primetime season kicked off Monday with Fox's "House" winning the night with 2.7 million total viewers on Global Television at 8 p.m., just ahead of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" on rival CTV.
"House," a perennial performer for Global Television, also pulled in 1.3 million viewers in the key 18-49 demo, according to BBM Canada PPM numbers.

The season opener for "Dancing With the Stars" had 2.5 million total viewers in its 8-10 p.m., and 984,000 viewers 18-49.
That was enough to beat out the bow of NBC's "The Event" at 9 p.m. on Citytv with 1.08 million total viewers, ahead of Fox's "Lonestar" on Global Television with a disappointing 824,000 total viewers, well down from its "House" lead-in.
Global did better with CBS' "Hawaii 5-O" at 10 p.m., which attracted 2.1 million total viewers nationally, and 1.3 million in the 18-49 demo, against CTV's third season premiere of ABC's "Castle" and a series-high of 1.9 million total viewers, helped by the "Dancing With The Stars" lead-in.
