A Star Is Born didn't shine as brightly as expected at the 2019 Golden Globes. Bradley Cooper's directorial debut, in which he starred alongside Lady Gaga, was nominated in four categories at the annual awards ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday night — but only won one.

Gaga — who plays pop ingenue Ally in the film — took home the award for best original song for her chart-topping hit "Shallow," Ally's duet with Cooper's Jackson Maine character. She, along with songwriters Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt, beat out competition including Troye Sivan's "Revelation" (Boy Erased), Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "All the Stars" (Black Panther), Dolly Parton's "Girl in the Movies" (Dumplin') and Annie Lenox's "Requiem for a Private War" (A Private War).

Gaga was also nominated for best actress in a drama motion picture but lost to Glenn Close (The Wife). Nicole Kidman (Destroyer), Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Rosamund Pike (A Private War) were nominated as well.

Cooper was nominated for best actor in a drama motion picture but lost to Rami Malek, who portrays Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Willem Dafoe (At Eternity's Gate), Lucas Hedges (Boy Erased) and John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) were also nominated.

In the coveted best drama motion picture category, A Star Is Born lost to Bohemian Rhapsody. Additionally, Cooper nabbed a nomination for best director for helming A Star Is Born but lost to Alfonso Cuaron (Roma).

Despite their losses, Gaga earlier in the night told E!'s Ryan Seacrest that working with Cooper on A Star Is Born was artistically fulfilling. "I learned a lot about going to the nectar of your being," she said. "I discovered something in working on this film and it's something called alchemy. … You're really becoming the character. [Cooper] taught me how to really be present on set."

Gaga was previously honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2016 when she took home the Golden Globe for best actress in a limited series or TV movie for her role as the Countess in Ryan Murphy's FX series American Horror Story: Hotel. Cooper was previously nominated for his film roles in 2013's American Hustle and 2012's Silver Linings Playbook.

The Golden Globe Awards — hosted this year by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh — is produced by Dick Clark Productions, which shares a parent company with The Hollywood Reporter. Tune in after Sunday's Globes telecast for THR and Twitter's official live aftershow
