HPA Awards to be presented Nov. 6

Quantel, Fastsoft and Panasonic among honorees

Quantel, Fastsoft and Panasonic have won Hollywood Post Alliance Engineering Excellence Awards.

The trophies will be presented at the third annual HPA Awards, Nov. 6 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Quantel will be honored for developing 3-D capabilities for its Pablo finishing system, which was deisgned to make live action stereoscopic postproduction viable.

FastSoft was recognized for its E Series Internet accelerator, an appliance that accelerates the speed of data downloads without compression.

Panasonic will receive an award for its AVC-Intra 100 video codec that is suitable for portable field acquisition as well as making master archives.

The HPA Awards recognizes talent in color grading, audio post, compositing and editing. Elizabeth Daley, Dean of the University of Southern California School Of Cinematic Arts, will receive the first Charles S. Swartz Award for Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Post Production. Ron Burdett, longtime postproduction industry leader, will receive the HPA Lifetime Achievement Award.
