Hungarian Film Archives expands rights

Now has distribution rights to films made before 1987

MOSCOW -- A recent governmental decision has given the Hungarian National Film Archives distribution rights to films made in the country before 1987.

The move ends the group's four-year dispute with state-run distributor Mokep-Pannonia, which used to have all distribution rights under the Communist system, and the film company Dialog Filmstudio.

The latter two questioned a clause in the Hungarian film law adopted in 2004 that would transfer distribution rights from them to the National Film Archive. The government ruling confirms the 2004 regulation.
