Makeup Monday: Celeb Makeup Artists Spill on Hydrating In-Flight Must-Haves
Just in time for all your summer travels.
Summer travel season is finally here. Besides the long check-in lines, security screening jumble and potentially delayed take-off times, traveling at 30,000 feet can seriously dehydrate the skin.
"Flying can take its toll on your skin," says celebrity makeup artist Natasha Severino, who counts Erin Wasson and Liberty Ross as clients. "Layering hydrating products throughout your journey will help you arrive at your final destination looking your best."
Makeup artists should know. They’re most often jetting around with their celeb clients and need to hit the ground running, with a blush brush and mascara wand in hand, ready to work.
Whether it’s a spritz, cream, eye mask or an extra hydrating combo of products, several on-the-go celebrity and advertising makeup artists sound off on what they plan to stash in their carry-on to avoid dryness while flying around the world this summer.
Pati Dubroff (clients: Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Bosworth, Naomi Watts)
"Weleda Skin Food ($19) is my airplane savior. It's rich and super nourishing and my skin just drinks it up. I also spray Kerstin Florian Rehydrating Neroli Water ($35) throughout the flight to moisten and uplift my mood!"
Natasha Severino (clients: Erin Wasson, Liberty Ross)
"While I love the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask ($135) and the La Mer Hydrating Facial Mask ($250), not everyone is comfortable looking like Michael Myers in public. For looking hydrated and rested after a long (or short) haul flight, I like Sisley Black Rose Precious Face Oil ($235) under Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask ($162). There's nothing that says first class in hydration more than these two products used together. The oil is rich in omega and aids in the continuous hydration of the skin. Layered with the cream mask, they both work on the signs of fatigue and dehydration, leaving the skin energized and luminous."
Ashley Gomila (clients: Iggy Azalea, Ashley Greene, Julie Delpy)
"Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil ($35) is perfect for jet setting because it’s the perfect silky light oil to give you a quick healthy-looking radiance on the go. This is a product I use on all of my clients prior to applying foundation. I love this product because it preps the skin for a flawless foundation application."
Joey Maalouf (clients: Molly Sims, Rachel Zoe)
"I'm obsessed with Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Face Gels ($35). They are refreshing and hydrating. By the way: it's totally normal to wear them on a plane now, so don't be embarrassed."
Steven Aturo (clients: Alicia Keys, Willow Smith, Usher)
"Dermalogica Antioxidant Hydramist ($42) is one of my favorites. It comes in a travel size and refreshes and hydrates the skin."
Melissa Rogers (clients: J Brand, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger)
"I’ve been partial to Sunday Riley’s Juno Oil ($90). I love the way it feels and smells. It hydrates and looks great. La Mer Lip Balm ($55) or Creme de La Mer ($85) — a cult classic and a staple in my makeup kit and personal stash. Diptyque Hand Creme ($28) for the great texture, and it smells divine."
