IATSE, AMPTP reach tentative deal

New Area Standards Agreement would run to July 2012

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the AMPTP have reached a tentative deal for a new three-year Area Standards Agreement. The deal would run from Aug. 1 through July 31, 2012.

Terms of the deal, which are in line with other major labor negotiations over the past year, will affect about 8,000 American members of IATSE, the international union that represents workers employed in stage, film and television production as well as in the trade shows industry.

"I am pleased that during these extremely difficult economic times we were able to achieve a solid agreement with the producers that will provide continuing stability and protect the well-being of IATSE members in the areas covered by this contract," IATSE International president Matthew Loeb said.

Said the AMPTP: "This agreement reflects the value of both early negotiations and the willingness of both sides to work together to achieve a fair deal that will promote work opportunities and keep production going, especially in this challenging climate."
