IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Scott Coffey’s Adult World, which made its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

Written by Andy Cochran, the film stars Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, John Cusack, Armando Riesco, Cloris Leachman and Shannon Woodward.

The film centers on Amy (Roberts), naive, awkward and anxious to get her poetry career off the ground. Living with her parents in a bland upstate New York town and desperate for income, she begrudgingly accepts a job at Adult World, the local sex shop.

Adult World was produced by Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen of Treehouse Pictures, Joy Gorman and Alex Goldstone of Anonymous Content and Manu Gargi. Executive producers are Mohammed Al Turki, Joel Michaely and Paul Green.

IFC Films is planning a day-and-date theatrical and VOD release.

"Scott Coffey has directed a charming film with a terrific breakout performance from Emma Roberts," said Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films. "We are excited about the filmmaker’s shared enthusiasm about bringing this film to audiences as a day and date release.”

Added Nappi: "We're incredibly excited to be in business with IFC Films, a company that has been a home to so many amazing films. To secure a distribution deal that will take Adult World to audiences across North America is a testament to the talent and creativity of Scott and the filmmaking team behind the movie, and we feel incredibly proud about what has been achieved.”

CAA repped the filmmakers. Arianna Bocco negotiated on behalf on Sundance Selects/IFC Films.
