IIFA awards move to Ontario for 2011

Bangkok, Macau, Yorkshire all previous hosts

HONG KONG -- The International Indian Film Academy Awards will shift to Ontario, Canada, in 2011, it was announced Thursday.
The event is a weekend of promotional, charity and cultural activities culminating in an extravagantly glamorous Bollywood awards ceremony. Each year it changes venue, often to a location where Indian cinema is on the rise.
Organizers are still keeping quiet about the 2010 destination, but say that the 2011 event will be held in the Greater Toronto area (June 16-19, 2011), with the awards at Toronto's Rogers Centre and fringe activities in Brampton and Mississauga. More than half (550,000) of Canada's nearly one million Indians live in or around Toronto. Organizers will work closely with the Toronto International Film Festival and Luminato – The Toronto Festival of Arts.
Recent IIFA weekends have been held in Yorkshire, England; Bangkok, Thailand and Macau.
