Illuminated preps 'Not the End' movie

Geraldine McCaughrean story tells Noah's Ark tale

LONDON -- Illuminated Film Co. chief Iain Harvey said Monday that the U.K. animation banner is in preproduction on a movie based on Geraldine McCaughrean's award-winning novel "Not the End of the World."

The novel, a fresh take on the story of Noah and his ark, has been adapted for the big screen by writer-director Piet Kroon, who is best known for work on "A Christmas Carol -- The Movie," "Shrek 2" and "T.R.A.N.S.I.T."

Illuminated snapped up the rights to McCaughrean novel from agent David Higham Associates Ltd.

Kroon's 90-minute script tells the story of the ark through the eyes of Noah's youngest daughter. The story becomes a tale of survival amid external threats and internal family strife.

"I have always looked for stories that put their faith in people. 'Not' is an inspiring, deeply moving and richly comic thriller," Harvey said.
