More Cannes coverage

CANNES -- Image Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to "The Other Man," a thriller starring Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas and Laura Linney.

Based on a short story by Bernhard Schlink, who also penned "The Reader," the film centers on a man (Neeson) pursuing the mystery of his wife's adultery. Richard Eyre will direct and co-wrote the screen adaptation with Charles Wood.

The film's producers are Frank Doelger, Tracey Scoffield, Michael Dreyer, Mary Beth O'Connor and David Richenthal.

Image, based in Chatsworth, Calif., acquired the film -- which was in last year's Marche du Film and also played the Toronto International Film Festival -- from U.K.-based Rainmark Films, which co-produced the movie with New York's Gotham Prods. It plans to open the picture theatrically in New York and Los Angeles on Aug. 7, with an expansion planned for Aug. 14. Image also will release the film in the home entertainment market.

ICM, which reps Linney, packaged the film and repped North American rights.
