The new agreement will now run to December 31, 2013, and comes as the giant screen exhibitor pre-releases "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" on its screens ahead of a December 21 wide release.

TORONTO – Imax Corp. CEO Richard Gelfond has re-upped his employment contract with the Toronto-based giant screen exhibitor for another two years.

Gelfond, who oversees Imax from corporate offices in New York City, has seen his agreement extended to December 31, 2013, Imax revealed in a December 14 SEC filing.

The terms of the multiyear contract were not disclosed.

The extension came as part of an amendment to Gelfond's previous employment agreement that was to end on December 31, 2012.

It also signals Imax is continuing its expansion under Gelfond beyond North America, including into emerging markets like Russia and China.
