Imax Corp. Hires Former Paramount Exec to Spearhead EMEA Expansion

David King, former PPI exec, will be tasked with expanding the company's 101 theaters to more than 400 in the coming years.

LONDON –  Canada's large screen exhibition player Imax Corp. has hired former Paramount Pictures International exec David King to be the company's director, film distribution and marketing. Europe , Middle East and Africa.

King joins his former Paramount Pictures International boss Andrew Cripps at Imax.

King will tasked with the distribution and marketing of Imax DMR content throughout its network in EMEA, liaising with the Company’s exhibition and studio partners as well as identifying fresh international distribution opportunities.

He will report to Phil Groves, svp, Imax worldwide distribution and exhibitor relations and Christine Tasto, vp, Imax Film Marketing.

The company said King will also work closely with Cripps, president of Imax EMEA and evp of Imax.  

King joined PPI in 2004 and since 2008 he served as PPI’s deputy sales director responsible for the distribution of the studio's output in the U.K.

Imax Filmed Entertainment chairman and president Greg Foster said: "David [King] is passionate about the film industry and we’re excited to put his energy and enthusiasm to work to help expand our film presence in this strategically important region for Imax."

Cripps said his former colleague's hire underlines Imax ambitions to grow in the region.

Imax currently has 101 Imax theaters in EMEA with current inhouse market analysis of the market suggesting that approximately 415 Imax theatres could exist in the region over time.
