Imax Names Sony Exec Jiande Chen to Lead China Division

The big screen exhibitor makes a long-awaited appointment to China subsidiary as growth in the Asian market continues.

TORONTO -- Jiande Chen has left Sony to become CEO of Imax China.

The long-awaited appointment to Imax’s wholly-owned subsidiary follows Chen leaving his top distribution post with Sony Pictures Television, based in Beijing.

Chen will report to Imax CEO Richard Gelfond as he directs continued growth in China for the big screen exhibitor.

Don Savant has been promoted to president of theater development and film distribution, and remains managing director of Asia Pacific for Imax.

And Jim Athanasopolous has been named CFO of Imax China after a stint at Imax headquarters in Toronto.
