Imax unveils second Russian theatre deal

Karo Film to open at least two digital theatres

TORONTO -- Russian exhibitor Karo Film Management has picked up two Imax digital theatres for New York and St. Petersburg, with an option for a third.

As part of its agreement, Karo Film is to install the Moscow theatre in January 2011, followed by a St. Petersburg location in April 2011.

The exhibitor could then install a third system in either city further out.

The Karo Film deal follows Kazakhstan exhibitor Kinopark last week agreeing to install three Imax theatres in that Russian market by the end of 2012 (HR, Sept. 16).

Karo Film, which opened Russia's first multiplex in 2001, operates 32 locations with 169 screens.
