IMG Hires International TV Vet to Head Entertainment Sales
Gary Marenzi, formerly of Paramount and MGM, is the company's new head of entertainment sales and partnerships.
In a bid to boost its global profile, IMG has tapped international TV veteran Gary Marenzi for the newly created position of head of entertainment sales and partnerships.
In the new role, the former international TV president at Paramount will oversee global sales for the company’s entertainment programming, operating out of both Beverly Hills and London. IMG’s expansion from sports and fashion fare into the area of high-ended scripted series sales comes on the heels of its BBC/AMC drama The Night Manager, which stars WME clients Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston. IMG’s global team hammered out deals for the series to be licensed to broadcasters and other home media outlets around the world.
“IMG is uniquely positioned to handle our clients’ global sales needs across all forms of content,” IMG Media president Ioris Francini said Monday in a statement. “We are proud of our recent successes, and see a tremendous growth opportunity for high-quality scripted and non-scripted entertainment programming. We are fortunate to have Gary join us to lead this initiative.”
Added Marenzi: “It’s an honor to join IMG’s team, and I look forward to crafting and delivering the highest quality entertainment experiences for our clients worldwide.”
Marenzi, who returns to an increasingly competitive market as major media companies are keen on maintaining control of a series’ global rights, also did stints at MGM Worldwide Television and UIP Pay TV. More recently, he consulted through his own Marenzi & Associates.
