IMG Sports gets BCS in 2011

Fox Sports currently holds the college football bowl rights

NEW YORK -- IMG Sports Media will become the exclusive media rights agent for the college football Bowl Championship Series beginning in 2011.

Fox Sports has the TV rights to the BCS championship games through 2009 as well as the Tostitos Fiesta, FedEx Orange and Allstate Sugar Bowls through 2010. The Rose Bowl has the championship game in 2011.

IMG's deal is with the universities and conferences involved in the BCS. The unit of IMG Worldwide takes over for Kevin O'Malley, a former CBS Sports executive who negotiated the rights on behalf of the BCS. IMG's rights will be managed by executive vp Barry Frank, who has worked at ABC and CBS.

A new BCS rights deal is likely to come up within the next couple of months as Fox's exclusive negotiating window might come up as early as September. Fox and ESPN/ABC, the former rights-holder, are likely to contend.

Meanwhile, CAA Sports said Wednesday that it has formed a partnership with Gestifute to represent several soccer players and coaches, including Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and coach Jose Mourinho.
