Immelt will rule out NBC Uni sale

NEW YORK -- General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt will this week make his most definitive statement that he has no plans to sell the company's NBC Universal media unit, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

"Should we sell NBCU? The answer is no!" Immelt will write in a message for investors in GE's 2007 annual report, to be released Wednesday, according to the Times. "I just don't see it happening. Not before the Olympics, not after the Olympics. It doesn't make sense," the paper reported that he will say.

In recent months there have been reports that GE will make a decision on whether to sell the unit after the Beijing Olympics in August, which will be televised on NBC.

NBC was not available for comment.
